Put your headphones on and allow God to download revelation from the story into your spirit! I often sat on the bus listening to this completely amazed at the revelation I received from it.
The narration in this is one of the best i’ve heard. I’ve only listened to a few audiobooks, most of them boring and hard to listen too, but the narration in this is very impressive.
Instead of doing a full review of the storyline and plot (which you can get by reading the back cover or any google search) i’m going to reference to a few of the things I received from God whilst listening to it on my ipod.
One thing that stands out to me when listening to this story is a quote by a guy called John Bevere who once said:
“We don’t base truth on expereince, we base truth on the word of God and if our experience doesn’t line-up with the word of God then it just means that we have more learning to do until it does!”
Here’s some quotes from the book:
038 a meeting of hearts
God: “You demand your independence but then complain that I actually love you enough to give it to you.”
God: “All evil flows from independence but if I were to simply revoke all the choices of independence creating robots the world as you know it would cease to exist and real love would have no meaning.”
“If God takes away the consequences of independent choices he takes away the future and present possibility of real love. Love that forces itself is not love atall. Perhaps Adam should have been stopped before he chose his independence? 1 corinthians 13:4 says “Love …does not demand its own way. …and it keeps no record of being wronged.””
“Their was no way to create freedom without a cost, God knew what it would cost him and it’s still costing him today more than people realize.”
God has bound and limited himself and loved us enough not to override our free will. If we’re outside of God’s will and covenant we have no right to expect anything from him!
God does not send suffering and loss, he is a loving God but he cannot actively interfere in anyone’s suffering except through partnership with Him/Her. God can do anything he wants but he chose to limit himself. Partnership means we have a part and God has a part.
God loved us enough to actually give us independence and free will, he could have created robots but he wanted us to choose to love. He knew the consequences of giving us this and He’s still suffering those consequences of that every time he has to witness someone he loves suffer loss.
Everything we expect God to do we can actually get by finding out what his covenant promises say about it an partnering with Him. A conditional promise is a promise that will only come to pass when we partner with Him.
The first thing you have to understand when reading this book is that God has given authority to mankind! If you don’t know that then you’re not going to like the rest of this review, bad things don’t happen to good people because God allows it, bad things happen in the world because we allow it! That’s not a statement of blame, that’s a statement that should inspire you to press in harder than ever to find out how this thing works, it’s a promise we haven’t seen fully on the earth yet, but we have seen glimpses of it over the hill…
The “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” meant that we would have the ability to declare what was right and wrong (I believe the theological term is: “situational ethics or situational morals”).
Everyone of us will have our own definition of good and bad, right or wrong, justice and injustice. When you are tempted to believe what you think the right way to do something is, over what the scripture actually says, then you are being tempted with the exact same thing Eve was tempted with!
Mac (the main character) demanded his independence and his right to choose what was right and wrong for himself when something unfair and unjust happened to him. For a long time afterwards he blamed God for allowing it to happen! He lowered his theology of who God is by what he experienced in the story!
In situations like this God’s hands are often tied because he gave dominion over to man and chose to limit himself so we can have a free will!
